What is spam?
Spam is an unwanted, unsolicited bulk mailing designed to promote job opportunities or sell commercial products. This type of communication can be legitimate or malicious. If you respond to it, you are validating your e-mail address and will more than likely receive more e-mail from the spammer.
How can I stop receiving spam?
You can minimize the amount of spam you receive by only giving your e-mail address to trusted individuals and organizations. Find out more ways to prevent spam by visiting the University Information Services website.
What if I respond to it?
You should never respond to spam. If you do respond, delete any additional messages that come from that sender. If you responded with personal information such as your name or mailing address, it can never be retrieved.
Who do I contact if I have questions or concerns?
If you receive spam, forward the message with the header to abuse@georgetown.edu.
This will alert our office to any spam situations that may be affecting multiple users.
