As a result of recent and ongoing geo-political events, UIS has adopted a heightened cybersecurity posture for protecting the University’s critical infrastructure, assets, and data.

While there are no specific or credible cyber threats to the U.S. homeland at this time, the University is heeding the warning from the federal government to be mindful of the potential for increased cyber attacks. Russia’s actions in the Ukraine may have far-reaching impacts to organizations both within and beyond the region, particularly in the wake of sanctions imposed by the United States and our Allies.

Cognizant of continued denial of service and destructive malware attacks affecting Ukraine and other countries, Georgetown and other local institutions are prepared to respond to disruptive cyber activity. We are actively monitoring new threat reports and indicators released by various threat intelligence firms as well as US government warnings. We will update our tools and sensors with any new threats in order to quickly detect and defend against possible threats related to events in Ukraine.

UIS appreciates your cooperation, understanding, and assistance as we increase our cyber defenses and awareness in efforts to prevent any attacks on our resources.
