Phishing Email Alert _ Do Not Respond

Posted in Announcements

On July 18th, UIS began receiving reports of a phishing email with the subject “Quick Request.”

This email appears to be from an internal Georgetown staff or faculty member but the return address is flagrantly incorrect: name.georgetown.edu@gmail.com

If you have received this email, do not respond to the sender. It is an attempt to solicit money through the purchase of gift cards.

UIS has blocked the fake addresses that we have seen, but there could be more as other accounts get spoofed or impersonated. Please see the image below for reference.

What should you do?

  • If you receive an email that appears to be from a familiar person, CHECK THE SENDER’S EMAIL ADDRESS to ensure that it is legitimate.
  • If you receive this phishing email, please send it to CIRT@georgetown.edu
