Two-factor authentication is the industry standard to guard against malicious compromise of online accounts. More common consumer websites utilize these techniques, including your financial institutions, social media sites, etc. When two-factor authentication is not used, your and the university’s sensitive data is prone to unauthorized access through impersonation techniques.
Beginning on February 5, 2018, UIS is rolling out mandatory Duo two-factor NetID authentication for designated groups and individuals.
Designated users include:
If you have been identified as a user in at least one of these groups, you will be required to enroll in Duo no later than Friday, February 9, 2018. If you have not enrolled by then, you may be restricted from accessing some critical Georgetown systems like Gmail, Box, Banner, and GMS. (If you have already enrolled in Duo, please be aware that you will not be able to un-enroll without review and approval by Senior Leadership.)
This may be seem like a massive change or inconvenience in your day-to-day activities, but we fully trust that you appreciate how this extra sign-in step will provide immeasurable protection for you as well as the University.
To assist you with enrolling in and using Duo, UIS has posted instructions and how-to videos on the UIS web page at apps.georgetown.edu/duo and you can get face-to-face help at the walk-up help desk inside the University Bookstore.
If you have any questions or need any assistance, please contact the Help Desk at help@georgetown.edu.
